We Rise Together: For an Equitable and Just Recovery
Chicago’s small businesses drive economic empowerment, providing 58 percent of all jobs in the city and 70 percent of the jobs in underinvested neighborhoods. Yet, Black and Latinx-owned companies combined comprise just 8 percent of the total number of small businesses. Strengthening small businesses in Black and Latinx communities is a core component of a stronger and more resilient Chicago region.
On June 7, 2021, from 12-1 p.m., The Executives’ Club of Chicago will host We Rise Together: Strengthening Small Businesses, a panel discussion to explore the ways companies can support the small business ecosystem through procurement, scaling small businesses of color, and impact investing. The conversation will be moderated by Gloria Castillo, director of We Rise Together: For an Equitable and Just Recovery, a multi-faceted initiative providing funding, encouraging changes to business practices, and pursuing policy reforms to ensure the region comes back better after the pandemic’s health and economic crises. The panel will feature David A. Gupta, CEO of SDI Presence, Mambu Sherman, Vice President of Global Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Emilia DiMenco, President and Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Business Development Center.
