Women account for more than half of U.S. college students, but only 20 percent of degrees in fields such as computer science and engineering. For women who work in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), only 5 percent hold top leadership positions. Despite efforts in early-childhood education to attract more girls to STEM-related fields, the gender gap has not narrowed.
