Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt is the only American who has been appointed by President Truman as an official delegate to every session of the United Nations General Assembly. In 1946 she was named to the Human Rights Commission for a four year term and was immediately elected chairman. Charming and witty, Mrs. Roosevelt has polished to a high degree an effective method of speaking that comes naturally to her – a shy, Socratic approach to the subject at hand. Among Americans, Mrs. Roosevelt has attained a stature far surpassing that which she automatically had by virtue of her residence in the White House.
