The Executives' Club of Chicago Reveals 2019 CIO of the Year Award Recipient, Danielle Dumerer

The Executives' Club celebrates Danielle DuMerer as the 2019 CIO of the Year

- In partnership with The Society of Information Management (SIM) Chicago Chapter and the CompTIA AITP Chicago Chapter, The Executives’ Club is thrilled to announce Danielle DuMerer as the winner of the 2019 CIO of the Year Award. The CIO of the Year Award has been presented for 24 years to a Chicago-based CIO whose accomplishments and innovations have created meaningful advances in the city’s IT field.

The award is given to an individual with experience in driving business value through creative leadership, innovating through technology, and creating business partnerships and best-in-class workplaces for IT professionals. DuMerer’s contributions and accomplishments throughout the course of her career were celebrated at the SIM Chicago awards gala at The Union League Club on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 with executives and guests from across the greater Chicago area.

DuMerer is CIO and Commissioner of the City of Chicago's Department of Innovation and Technology, where the team is working to improve how residents interact with government by creating more responsive and accessible digital services. DoIT is responsible for the City’s core technology infrastructure, enterprise applications, data management & analytics, and information security; DoIT partners with other City departments to leverage data and technology to improve operations and service delivery.

DuMerer brings more than ten years of experience in government tech, having previously served as the City’s CTO and leading data, digital inclusion, and other strategic initiatives. In 2019, she was named one of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and Drivers by Government Technology magazine. In 2018, Bloomberg Cities named Commissioner DuMerer one of seven CityLab innovators to watch, and Statescoop named her one of the Top Women in Technology. In 2016, she and her team were recognized by the Chicago chapters of SIM and AITP as the Most Effective IT Team in a large company. Prior to joining government, DuMerer developed educational technology products at the McGraw-Hill Companies. She also worked in the Library and Archives field—serving educational and non-profit organizations to promote equitable access to and preservation of information resources. DuMerer holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Wendy Woodward was honored with the CIO+ Award, which celebrates a CIO who has successfully expanded their current role into other business areas and broadened their impact on driving success for the overall organization.
