Internship Overview

The Executives’ Club of Chicago is looking to bring student interns into the organization to assist with Club operations. There are four different intern roles available, and we ask that students apply to a specific role, based on their field of study or professional interests.

Interns will be trained and supervised by a specific member of the Club’s team. Throughout the internship, they will interact with the entire Club staff, attend staff and departmental meetings, and have opportunities to interface with senior business leaders and program speakers, and network with Chicago’s business community. In addition to learning how to develop and execute world-class business programs, interns will be provided opportunities to develop critical business-related skills including project management, organization, research and data analysis, data-base management, marketing, and communications.

The Membership Engagement Intern will work directly with the Chief Member Engagement Officer on evolving and streamlining the Club’s membership process. The ideal candidate is a student with a desire to become acquainted with Chicago’s business scene while learning how a membership based organization operates. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain membership database to make sure all directory information is up to date for both members and non-members of The Club.
  • Assist in potential new member research – conduct research various industries and potential member companies, and which C-Suite Leaders would be right for membership.
  • Assist in the retention process of individual member accounts.
  • Respond to inquiries for more information from prospective members.
  • Solicit member feedback on programming and member benefits. Create and present reports on continuous improvement opportunities for member benefits.
  • Assist in coordination of member engagement programs associated with forums, leadership development, and networking events, in-person and virtual.
  • When possible, attend & staff programs (involves varying event duties from escorting VIPs, to walk up registration. Some early mornings or evenings may be required).
  • Attend and participate at Membership Team meetings and internal staff meetings.
  • Administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications for All Positions:

  • Ability to handle several tasks in varying stages of development
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work independently, including prioritization of tasks and self-management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; NetForums or other database experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent writing skills and willingness to use them
  • Willingness to experiment, to learn, and to be creative
  • Ability to create great working relationships
  • Must have at least one business outfit for attendance at Club programs
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. and stand for an hour unassisted

The Marketing/ Events Intern will be responsible to work with the Program and Marketing Teams on the planning, marketing and execution of The Club’s extensive portfolio of programs and events, both in-person and virtual.

This internship is meant for a student majoring in marketing, communications, ideally with some event production experience. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ongoing research and industry analysis of similar programs.
  • Updating marketing and program materials.
  • Research topics, themes, or speakers for future programs.
  • When applicable, on-site setup and take down of programs.
  • Inventory and management of program materials.
  • Help with logistical preparation in the lead-up to events, both in-person and virtual.
  • When possible, Attend & staff programs (involves varying event duties from escorting VIPs, to walk up registration. Some early mornings or evenings may be required).
  • Attend and participate at Program Team meetings and internal staff meetings.
  • Administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.

The Development/Strategy reports directly to the Chief Partnerships Officer. The intern will be responsible for helping to streamline and develop processes for sponsorship outreach. The ideal candidate for this position is a student with interest in the operations of a non-profit organization and will have a desire to learn more about Chicago’s business community network. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Research of potential sponsor leads for the Club’s sales and development team as they relate to specific events hosted by The Club.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing database of Corporations that could serve as potential sponsors leads.
  • Research any big moves of corporations to Chicago update Club staff with relevant business news.
  • Research topics, themes, or speakers for future programs.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner for the Club’s staff – helping to determine and develop ways for corporate partners to engage in specific programs, based on their industry, clients, and/or corporate initiatives.
  • Draft template letters for upcoming club programs that will help to drive ticket and table sales for potential attendees.
  • When possible, Attend & staff programs (involves varying event duties from escorting VIPs, to walk up registration. Some early mornings or evenings may be required), events may be in-person or virtual
  • Attend and participate in Development Team meetings and internal staff meetings.
  • Administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.

The Public Relations/Social Media Internship is designed for the candidate with a demonstrated desire to learn more about social media and public relations. Successful candidates will be already actively engaged already in some aspect of social media, including blogging, communication with friends and colleagues through vehicles such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Candidates should additionally be consumers of both print and electronic media, and have an understanding of the relationships within the evolving media landscape. This intern should have an understanding of social media tools and techniques as well as various marketing styles (traditional, new media, guerilla and ‘word of mouth). The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Digital Marketing team in executing a social media strategy to increase visibility, membership and traffic across all digital platforms.
  • Experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social media activities.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media at the Club.
  • Measure the impact of social media on the overall marketing efforts
  • Assist in posting the “post/tweet of the day” by using social media organizing tools like Sprout Social and bit.ly.
  • Work on various public relations campaigns.
  • Assist in writing, editing and pitching.
  • Work on creating an archive that showcases the Club’s brand on different platforms.
  • Archiving Media Clips
  • Administrative tasks and special projects as assigned
