STEM Ladies

Fostering Girls in STEM to be Women in Tech

The Executives’ Club of Chicago is pleased to present our annual Women in Technology Forum event. Originally scheduled in conjunction with Bring Your Child to Work Day on April 23rd, this event remains a special opportunity for parents who are working from home to invite their children to listen in and participate this conversation. This discussion will focus on opportunities in Chicago to engage girls in STEM education and prepare them for studies and careers in technology. Whether you are a parent, child, manager, or CEO - our discussion will bring relevant insight for all.

Chicago is poised to create an ideal pipeline for women in technology – top notch universities, the highest concentration of female founders in the US, and business and civic leaders dedicated to retaining tech talent. How can we create an inclusive environment, in both schools and businesses, which encourages women to enter and advance in the tech field?

We are excited to bring you an expert panel of female tech executives, founders, non-profit leaders, and advocates to discuss how the Chicago community can support and bolster female tech talent from the classroom to career.

We encourage all our guests to take advantage of a special offer to bring their child - boys and girls of all ages - to this event for free.

PLEASE NOTE: You will receive a second email on July 14 with the link to access the webinar. Please check your spam or junk folder in case the link is sent there.

Lightfoot Square

A Conversation with Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot

While planning for Chicago’s reopening amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot insisted that the City must also focus on building a long-term plan to recover from the virus’ devastating impacts. In April, Mayor Lightfoot, in partnership with former White House Chief of Staff Sam Skinner, established a one-of-a-kind COVID-19 Recovery Task Force, comprised of more than 150 experts from a wide range of industries, regional government leaders, community-based partners and policymakers, to advise the City on its recovery efforts. On Thursday, July 9, the City of Chicago publicly released the advisory report compiled by the Recovery Task Force, which outlined a set of 17 recommendations to address many of Chicago’s challenges that were amplified by COVID-19 and recent civil unrest. Following Mayor Lightfoot’s keynote remarks, she will discuss the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force, their advisory report, and Chicago’s plans for continued reopening and long-term recovery with The Executives’ Club of Chicago President & CEO, Margaret Mueller.

Please join us on Thursday, July 16 at Noon for this insightful conversation about the city’s future.

Board Governance: Merging Profit and Purpose

Serving on a board, whether for- or non-profit, isn’t the same as even a decade ago. Neither is it for those who provide counsel and services to ensure responsible board governance. In this conversation, we explore how our short term focus and goal-setting impacts long term performance and the role board members and professional service providers play in this planning. Brought to you by The Executives’ Club’s Professional Services Forum, this event will explore critical considerations such as:

  • Board Structure and Representation: How are organizations responding to changing shareholder and employee expectations about diversity, equity and inclusion?
  • Company Culture and Values: How are board members setting the tone and leading by example when it comes to the social culture and behavior of an organization?
  • Stakeholders and Shareholders: How do boards balance their responsibility to turn a profit for shareholders while proactively managing the expectations of stakeholders?

Join us on August 6 to participate in this discussion about the changing roles and responsibilities of those who serve on boards, and the professionals who advise and support their duties.
