On May 25th, Maria Bartiromo, Anchor of CNBC's "Closing Bell" and Host and Managing Editor of "The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo" moderated a distinguished panel of women discussing the importance of building, maintaining and using their "personal board" to help shape their career. The panel shared tips about how to build a sucessful network, be a mentor to new leaders and navigate today's job market.

Cazalot, President & CEO of Marathon Oil Corporation delivered timely remarks, "Delivering America's Energy Security" at the Club's annual meeting, addressing some of the hard truths concerning global energy supply and demand in the context of world population growth, developing nations efforts to achieve economic prosperity similar to that of developed nations, and the need to meet our growing energy needs in a responsible way.

Otellini, President & CEO of Intel Corporation, described the need to create a culture of investment in the United States in his presentation, titled, "Reinventing America's Economic Future: Fostering Industries of the 21st Century." Otellini's remarks explored the role of American businesses in partnering with the government in promoting education, innovation and the createion of new business opportunites to maintain a globally competitive economy.

In an age of excess and abundant credit, financial institutions widely ignored or disguised risk until it was too late. With the ecnomic outlook slowly improving, Joe Plumeri, Chairman & CEO of Willis Group Holdings, discussed the role that transparency must play in restoring trust - and how true risk management needs to be understood and embraced in American business to avoid another crisis.

The Executives’ Club held its Annual Meeting & CEO Panel Discussion, entitled “Winning the War for Global Diverse Talent,” on May 20, 2009. The CEO-level panel discussion focused on strategies for managing a growing global workforce, as well as the pressing need for employers to create a flexible, innovative workplace that fosters diversity and inclusion throughout the corporate culture. The panel discussion was be moderated by Del Jones, USA Today, and featured panelists Gary E. McCullough, President & Chief Operating Officer for Career Education Corporation; Sheila Penrose, Chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle; and Barry Salzberg, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte LLP.

On May 7, 2009, Colin Dyer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jones Lang LaSalle and board member of The Executives’ Club, presented the keynote at the Club’s last Chicago CEO Breakfast of its 2009 Spring Season. His presentation, “Recession and World Real Estate: Impact and Responses,” resonated well with the 300 members and guests in attendance. The audience was left with a better understanding of the global effects of the economic recession on the real estate industry and how corporations, such as Jones Lang LaSalle, are working to counteract the impact of the downturn.

During the December 11, 2008, Global Leaders Luncheon, speaker Rex W. Tillerson, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, ExxonMobil Corporation, discussed the importance of energy to our nation’s future. In this time of economic challenge and political change, the decisions made on energy policy are critical to our economic recovery and global competitiveness. As nations develop and economies return to strong growth, the world will need more sources of energy. To meet these challenges, there is a need for long-term thinking, wise policies, and innovative ideas. Mr. Tillerson offered his perspective on this important issue.

As CEO, Lewis leads one of the world’s largest financial institutions and 2007’s twelfth most profitable company in the world.

During the October 17, 2008, Global Leaders Luncheon, speaker Antonio M. Perez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Eastman Kodak Company, shared his insights on “The Reinvention of Kodak: Creating Imaging that Matters.” Mr. Perez discussed how he spearheaded the worldwide transformation of Kodak from a business based on film to one based primarily on digital technologies.

On October 17, 2008, Technology Conference moderator, John M. Gentry, General Manager for the Chicago Region of CSC, led panelists Shouvik Dutta, Vice President, Hart Schaffner Marx; Jeffrey Gathe, Vice President of Komatsu America Corporation; Joan Kelly, Group Executive, Dual Message and Core Ancillary Applications, Global Technology and Operations, MasterCard Worldwide; and Alan Reiss, Senior Vice President of Country Financial, in a discussion entitled “Emerging From the Economic Downturn – CIO to the Rescue.” The senior IT executives from these various industries discussed how they aided in their companies’ journey to reinventing itself. The conference also revealed the early results of the annual Chicago-based survey, led jointly by CSC and The Executives’ Club of Chicago, providing insight into what is ahead in technology for Chicago businesses, both from a technology user and solutions provider prospective.

On October 7, 2008, moderator Kristyn Hartman of CBS 2 Chicago, led Desirée Rogers, then President of Social Networking for Allstate Financial and Board member of the Executives' Club; Julia Stasch, Vice President at John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; and Margaret Stender, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Sky, on the topic of “Careers in Stages: Defining the Course.” The panelists discussed how the current career path has evolved and how the spotlight is no longer on tenure and dedication to a particular company or organization, but on developing skills that can be translated over multiple fields and disciplines.

During the September 23, 2008, Global Leaders Luncheon, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nokia Corporation, discussed “Navigating Our Mobil Future: Opportunities in a Wireless World Where Context is King.” Mr. Kallasvuo examined the opportunities, challenges, and potential of this brave new world of mobility, including a look at some of the future technology that Nokia is working in its labs around the world with major research institutions and with its new American partner, Chicago-based NAVTEQ.

On September 12, 2008, a Joint Committee Breakfast of the Civic and International Committees entitled “Chicago 2016: An Overview of the City’s Bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games” was attended by over 1,200 members and guests. Wrigley Jr. Company, discussed the company’s history, culture and global competitive environment. The 600 plus members and guests in attendance greatly appreciated his insightful remarks on how Wrigley has withstood the short-term pressures and has consistently taken the actions for healthy generational growth by focusing on worldwide talent and innovation.

During the Finance Committee Breakfast on November 5, 2007, John Snow, Chairman of Cerberus Capital Management and Former Secretary of U.S. Treasury, shared his insights on “Private Equity, the Liquidity Crunch and the State of the Global Economy.” Our 400 plus members and guests were captivated by Secretary Snow’s presentation on private equity and the pivotal role it can play in the marketplace. Secretary Snow shared that Cerberus Capital’s investment in Chrysler has created a different, more effective environment where key managerial decisions, such as the recent cut of Chrysler’s fourth quarter production, can be made in a matter of minutes rather than weeks or months.

Daley, City of Chicago, passionately discussed the CPS education system and the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, leaving our 1,100 plus members and guests with a better understanding of the true and meaningful partnership between government, business, and the community at large. Mayor Daley offered inspirational insights on pertinent issues such as an extended school year, increasing foreign language curriculum, environmental leadership, as well as transportation issues and initiatives.

This year's Annual Meeting and Luncheon featured David J. O’Reilly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Corporation on May 8, 2007.
